Unseenlabs has announced the launch of two new satellites in collaboration with SpaceX. Set to be integrated by Exolaunch and launched as part of SpaceX’s Transporter-10 mission, the satellites, named BRO-12 and BRO-13, are scheduled for liftoff no earlier than March 2024 from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.

An important expansion
Unseenlabs, with its new, proprietary technology, is at the forefront of space-based RF detection for maritime surveillance. Its innovative solutions make it possible to geolocate and characterize any vessel at sea, regardless of location or weather conditions.
The addition of BRO-12 and BRO-13 satellites to the company’s satellite constellation represents a significant milestone in providing increased intelligence and security solutions for both government and commercial sectors.

The addition of these satellites significantly enhances global visibility within oceans, allowing governments, insurers, shipowners, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) access to vital radio frequency surveillance data.

The company’s technology
Their satellite-based surveillance technology utilizes advanced methods to capture electromagnetic waves, particularly radio frequency signals, from space. This enables the detection of passive emissions from ships’ electronic systems with remarkable precision, even in challenging maritime environments.
The technology addresses a critical gap in maritime surveillance by enabling the identification of ships that disable transponders to engage in illegal activities such as IUU (Illegal, unreported and unregulated) fishing, ocean dumping, and trafficking.
Furthermore, Unseenlabs’ capability to revisit monitored areas every four to six hours, combined with plans for more satellite launches in 2024, positions the company to achieve real-time monitoring of the seas.
With ambitions to expand their constellation to 25 satellites by 2025, the company is poised to further enhance maritime surveillance and combat illegal activities at sea in the coming years.
